February Jewelry: Amethyst

Amethyst is the birthstone for February. My Mother and my sister were both born in February, so I am very familiar with amethyst. It can found in Africa, Russia, South America, and the United States. It’s color varies from light lavender to a deep rich purple. The dark purple variety was historically favored by royalty.

Above is a piece of amethyst I was lucky enough to inherit from my Mom. According to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), one of the best examples of the use of amethyst in historical jewelry is the Cartier bib necklace owned by Wallis, Duchess of Windsor. Wow! 🤩

February Jewelry Amethyst Necklace

You may remember that in A Fresh Start, I used an amethyst heart for a necklace for a friend. I decided to make a bracelet using amethyst for her Mom, to link them together in their goal. I had fun choosing the beads to use… amethyst, of course, with green apatite (?) and some gold seed beads as accents.

I was happy with the outcome, and so was she. 💜

I enjoy making jewelry, so if I can incorporate someone’s birthday, or some other special meaning into the jewelry making process, so much the better. Wishing all the February birthdays out there a wonderful day of celebration. 💜
