Hygge: Part Two

Let’s See How I Did With My Hygge Challenge

Day 1:

Watching the snow come down. We have a couple of inches on the ground. A cup of Earl Grey tea, a Christmas gift from Connor. Watching the Sound of Music. A favorite of mine that I haven’t seen in ages. I had a lot of fun singing along (sometimes with tears in my eyes). The Nazi subtext was completely lost on me when I was a child. πŸ’œ

Day 2:

It’s a quiet afternoon with a chill in the air. A perfect day for reading by the fire with my favorite person. Mine is Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. John’s is Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. A mug of hot chocolate that we picked up on our anniversary trip in Paris is the icing on the cake. We can’t leave Skye out. πŸ˜‰

Day 3:

Another good day for staying cozy inside. We decided to start a puzzle together. I love that the puzzle itself depicts a Hygge scene. A family and their dog cozy by the fire. πŸ₯° We can definitely relate to that. πŸ˜‰ Step one: Turn all the puzzle pieces over and separate out the edge pieces…

Day 4:

John and I are going to continue working on our puzzle (it’s been a slow start) and add some cookie making into the mix. πŸͺ We are both big fans of chocolate chip cookies… mine with walnuts, his without. The recipe on the bag of chocolate chips has always been a winner for me. In order for the cookies to last more than a day, they *must* be put into the cookie jar. Out of sight… somewhat out of mind. πŸ˜…

Day 5:

Today I made the ultimate sacrifice and took a nap by in front of the fire with Skye. πŸ˜‚ I must admit that this is neither the first nap we’ve taken together, nor is it likely to be the last. She is an excellent nap buddy. πŸ’œ Poor John is just not a good napper… unless of course we’re watching something together and he starts “resting his eyes”… 🀣

Day 6:

John and I decided to play some of our favorite music for one another. 🎡 We thought it might be fun to select something that the other might not be familiar with. John knows pretty much all of the popular music that I like, so I chose Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 in B minor, also known as the Unfinished Symphony. John chose Dustbowl Revival, his newest find. πŸ’œ

Day 7:

For our final day of the challenge, we decided to watch a movie together… an old favorite… The African Queen. It’s a favorite of both of ours, so it was an easy decision. The movie is a real gem, and the behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie are just as good. The perfect ending to a perfect day. πŸ’œ

So how *did* I do with my Hygge Challenge? I would have to say that cozy is my middle name. I am definitely a fan of the Hygge lifestyle, and Skye is definitely a Hygge dog. πŸ˜… The challenge comes from making a point of doing something Hygge everyday, whether together or alone. To set the intention and then to act on it… this is something I would like to continue in our day-to-day lives… what about you???
