Looking Forward in 2024

Looking Forward in 2024 with a Vision Board

I have never made a vision board, but I was looking for a way to look forward, rather than backward, as 2023 comes to a close. I was delighted to come across this article by Megan Kristel.

She says this:

I look at my Vision Board as a way to stay on task, as a visual of my dreams, goals, morals, and standards. I use it not only to stay motivated but this might sound silly; it helps remind me of who I am.

Toward the end of last year I wrote New Years Resolutions as a reminder that this time of year is a wonderful time to remember to be kind to ourselves. I think creating a vision board is the next logical step.

Last Year’s List:

  • I try to take advantage of spending time outside whenever possible. I can always step outside for a moment to take a deep breath and get a peek at the sun , we are an easy walk to the village, and we are lucky enough to have access to local trails, land trust property, state parks, and state forests.
  • I have family close and far, so I am able to see them in as little as 30 minutes or four to five hours (if the traffic gods are kind ), but if schedules don’t permit an in person visit, Facetime is the next best thing…
  • I have friends from all different stages of my life that I can reach out to… elementary school, college, book club, tennis, BFFs, and family friends. It is a special feeling to reach out to someone who you don’t see often and be able to pick up right where you left off.
  • Too many artists to mention (although the impressionists are among my favorites)… I have found Instagram to be a great resource. If I can’t get to a museum in person, I can often see their most recent exhibits online.
  • Musical favorites also come from all phases of my life and include everyone from Beethoven to Joni Mitchell to Billie Eilish, and everyone in between. And yes, singing loud in the car is the best!!!
  • Too many books, too little time, can’t even…
  • Playing tennis, making jewelry, playing the piano, texting *funny* memes to my kids, finding innocent ways to annoy my husband… did I say that last one out loud  These are a few of my favorite things…

What is a Vision Board?

For me, a vision board is a visual representation of what is important to me. What I have formerly placed in list form, will now available to me as a group of pictures. Each picture is meaningful to me, and represents one of my goals for the new year.

My words:

  • Family
  • Joy
  • Gratitude… three things that are very important to me.

My pictures (clockwise from the upper left):

  • Skye in the woods represents being outside and enjoying nature
  • A selfie of John and me reminds me to focus on quality time spent with my best friend
  • A picture I took in the Quiraing, Skye, Scotland reminds me to include travel in our plans for the year
  • Chester, where I want to continue working on projects inside and out as we make our house into our home
  • Women with their arms in the air reminds to incorporate fun into the new year
  • A picture of our entire family. No explanation needed 💜
  • A woman working out reminds me that fitness is vital to me now and in my future years

How do you prepare for arrival of the new year? Will it be with a list, a vision board, or do you prefer to simply wing it? Wishing all of you the very best in 2024. 🥰

💜Kendra
