My Wardrobe Epiphany

Now that I am of a certain age, it may seem strange that I am having any type of epiphany… let alone a wardrobe epiphany, πŸ˜„ but trust me when I say that for me, it was a big one.

I love pretty things, and clothes are no exception. The problem has always been that this pretty thing and that pretty thing don’t really combine to make any sort of a reasonable outfit. I was just buying separates that I liked, with no thought as to how I was going to wear them. I have also always liked bright colors and patterns. Pretty much your basic nightmare when it comes to the day-to-day.

The Epiphany

Here comes the epiphany… I realized that it didnt’ have to be that way… huge, right??? πŸ˜† I have begun “curating” (excuse me while I gag a little bit) a group of clothes in softer colors that can be combined in a multitude of ways to create a multitude of outfits. And let me tell you, I am having so much fun! First, because I love to shop (sorry, John πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ). And secondly, because I still love all my individual pieces, but what I love even more is that they all play nicely with each other. πŸ’œ

I am still pretty much a denim girl. but now I have more options. A simple pair of straight leg jeans in four colors: black (very sexy), dark wash (dressy), medium wash (everyday), and dusty pink (keeping a little color) offers a lot of variety.

I keep the bottoms pretty basic so I can have more fun with the tops. They vary in material from cotton to cashmere, but staying within a range of colors is what makes it all work… white, cream, varying shades of gray, dusty pink, and black. The thing that keeps it from being boring, aside from the number of mix and match options, is the variety of textures.

Time for true confessions, I did get rid of 99% of my wild colored and patterned things that were pretty much stand alone pieces… but I did keep that 1% for moments when I want to add a little zing… because, hey, you never know. πŸ™ƒ

Now for the outfits

To keep it simple, I used the same pair of jeans, but you can imagine the variation possible with others added into the mix. Even the tops and sweaters here can mix and match. The possibilities are endless…

What was your wardrobe epiphany?
