The Three Words on My 2024 Vision Board: Family, Joy, and Gratitude

For the three words on my 2024 vision board, I will present the dictionary definitions, according to Merriam Webster, as well as my own, and explain why they are important to me.

Family

The Remington Family 2023

  • The basic unit in society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children.
  • I believe that the definition of family should be greatly expanded. A family can be any number of people who love and care for one another.

John and I are a family. John, our children, their significant others, their children, and I form another family. John, our siblings, and I form another one. And John, our closest friends, and I form yet another one. The possibilities are truly endless…

Joy

Double Rainbow in Iceland

  • The emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.
  • I feel inexpressible joy at being part of my family… any and all of them!

Joy can be elicited by seeing the sun shining in the sky, the song of a bird, a cat purring, the giggle of a child… we are so lucky to be alive and to be able to experience these and all the wonders of nature.

Gratitude

Gratitude

  • The state of being grateful, which is the affording of pleasure or contentment
  • For me, gratitude is the acknowledgement of how lucky we are to be able to experience the things that bring us joy.

I think it can be easy to be distracted by the day-to-day stresses and forget all that we have to be grateful for. I know I am guilty of this. We can get so caught up in the worries of what we don’t have, can’t do, didn’t get done, did wrong, etc. that it can sometimes block out all other thoughts.

For me, these three words are inextricably linked. My family brings me great joy and I am forever grateful for them. That is why these three words are on my 2024 vision board. They are there for me to celebrate them, as well as to remind me how important they are, in those moments when I might forget. πŸ’œ

What words do you hold close to your heart for 2024? I hope this discussion might help you to better remember them as well. πŸ’œ
